Patinated Bronze Mandarin Duck by Geoffrey Dashwood

About the Item

This is an excellent bronze stylized sculpture of a Mandarin Duck by Geoffrey Dashwood. Known for his use of simplicity, smooth surfaces, and continuous curved forms, this sculpture is an excellent representation of his work. Devoid of "superficial detail" this sleek sculpture portrays a duck standing with its wings lifted. The minimal lines in the piece follow the curves of the duck, accentuating its form. The patina is a subtle reddish brown. The sculpture is signed and numbered 3/12 and sits on a round base with felt on the underside. This would be a wonderful addition to any sculpture collection. Simple and beautiful; simply beautiful! Geoffrey Dashwood was born in 1947 in Hampshire, England. He is a contemporary sculptor known particularly for his bronze birds. "Birds have been a personal passion since childhood and I am constantly and inexplicably drawn back to them for inspiration." He studied at the South Hampton College of art and has worked with the Forestry Commission as a keeper in southern England. Below excerpt from artist's own website: "A sculptor of birds in bronze, eliminating all superficial detail to attain refined forms with smooth surfaces, enhanced by the application of coloured and multi-coloured patinas. Although his work can be placed within the genre of wildlife art, Dashwood has transcended the subject matter and his bronzes are firmly established in the wider field of contemporary art."

By Guy Charles Revol, Foundry Valsuani
    Located in Palm Desert, CA
This is an exquisite bronze sculpture depicting a kneeling woman by Guy Charles Revol. Possibly another interpretation of Venus Kneeling, this young woman is kneeling on her left knee and resting her arms on her right knee, looking over her left shoulder. The piece is signed and numbered on the bronze base. The VALSUANI Foundry Mark is also visible on the base. This is a beautiful piece to showcase on its own. "Guy Charles Revol was born 3 October 1912 , in Paris. He studied at the Beaux-Arts de Paris and was a sculptor, medallist, and designer. Revol won second prize in the Prix de Rome in 1937. • Unique Bronze Guitar Player by Marchello Mascherini
    By M. Mascherini
    Located in Palm Desert, CA
This is a unique bronze piece, not editioned, by Marchello Mascherini of a seated figure on a stool playing a guitar. One may interpret the figure as singing as his mouth is open. The figure and the guitar blend and become one in areas, creating ambiguity of definition in the piece. The patina is a deep chocolate brown. The base of the sculpture is marble and measures 3.25" X 3.25". The original tag is still present on the underside of the base, but has faded and is not completely legible. It is signed "M. Mascherini" on one of the legs of the stool. This is definitely a piece worthy of joining any art collection. Marchello Mascherini was born in Udine, Italy, in 1906. He moved to Isernia, the central-southern region of Molise, where he first began learning about sculpture in the local workshops of the area. He finished his education at the Regia Scuola d’arte and moved on to the Istituto Industriale “Alessandro Volta” in the spring of 1921 focussing on ornamental sculpture. His first one-man show took place at Circolo Alessandro Manzoni...
