Staffordshire "Clovelly Donkey". Clovelly, a sea side town in Devon. Circa 1920, Marked England (This is a 1900-1920 mark) This one bearing baskets of flowers. Donkeys are an unusual Staffordshire animal figures. More common are the dogs, cats, sheep, horses and cows etc. Donkeys were pack animals that conveyed goods from the sea up the cliffs to the town. They became popular on the island as Children's rides. Hence, "Clovelly Donkeys". Excellent glaze colors and texture to the flora base. Very good antique condition.

    Wear consistent with age and use. Light areas that appear as wear are under the glazes and a product of the hand decoration and firing process. Some crackling and crazing to the glaze at the bottom and base common to Staffordshire ceramics. NO REPAIRS EVIDENT.
