A painted terracotta putto hand-crafted in Sicily in the first half of 20th century in the town of Caltagirone world famous for hand-crafted ceramics. This Angel has normal signs of use and age. The Baroque style originated in Italy in the early 17th century and is known for its elaborate ornamentation, dramatic effects, and a sense of movement. Baroque art features grandeur, contrast, and a strong emphasis on emotion and this Putto has these characteristics. Sicily, being an island with a rich history and cultural influences from various civilizations, has a unique artistic tradition. Putti were commonly used to symbolize innocence and divine love.
