Ancient Grecco-Roman Bronze Figure of Isis/ Aphrodite from Second Century B C

About the Item

This fine ancient bronze statue of Isis/Aphrodite, a syncretistic goddess of Hellenistic origin combines, the Egyptian goddess Isis with the Greek goddess Aphrodite. Created between the second century BC and the first century AD. This figure is based on the great figures of the goddess Aphrodite produced in a classical style of the 4th century BC inspired by the Aphrodite of Cindos modeled by Praxiteles which was considered by Pliny the Elder to be one of the finest statues in the world at the time. The combination of the goddesses is seen in the Fine Greek proportion of the buttock, hips and the facial features the very essence of the classical female figure combined with the diadem and sistrum of the Egyptian goddess. In this figure, the goddess is shown standing nude with her weight on her left leg and her right arm bent at the elbow, with hand raised to hold the sistrum.
