A wonderful art deco bronze sculpture by Sibylle May.
Signed in the bronze + foundry marks (LA STELE)
Rare French Art Deco bronze figure of Sibylle May.
English sculptor Sibylle May worked in Paris in the twenties, belonged to the group of artists "La Stèle" and "L´Evolution" founded by Arthur Goldscheider. The two groups of artists presented their work at the 1925 World´s Fair in Paris in their own pavillon, designed by Eric Bagge.
Unfortunately, the dates of Sibylle May´s life are unknown.
The bronze figure and the marble base belonging to it are in the original condition of the twenties.
This fine bronze with cubist features is a very rare, extremely decorative Art Deco figurine.
It has not been restored to preserve its original museum charm.
Very nice elaboration and shaping.
The figure is signed in the base.
