A beautiful early 20th century oil on canvas painting of a seductive young woman reclining on a daybed. Signed lower left Micao Kono and dated XXXVII (1937). Micao Kono (Japanese 1876-1954), Micao Kono was born in Japan, moving to work in Paris in the 1920s. His style, a mixture of Japanese watercolor and figurative Art Deco. He often mixed egg tempera into his oils to achieve a crazed texturing effect in the paint. Entitled “Femme Debout au Drape” the work is dynamic and powerful as are almost all of the artist's figural works in bronze. The figure is cast and retains its original patina in a dark black-green.
