Bow Porcelain Figure - Seated Rustic Seasons - the Autumn Vendangeur, c1765

About the Item

Bow Porcelain Figure - Seated Rustic Seasons - the Autumn Vendangeur, c1765 Additional information: Date : c1765 Period : George III Marks : none Origin : Stratford at Bow; England Colour : Polychrome with gilt highlights Pattern : The Autumn figure from the seated rustic seasons series; this was the second iteration of these figures, the first having plain, flat bases rather than a scrolling rococo pedestal, though the figure itself remained broadly similar - a grape-picker seated on a basket overflowing with his harvest, closely regarding a bunch in one hand with a glass full of red wine in the other; this specific model has less fruiting bocage than some others Condition : Excellent; the body and base seem almost entirely intact with just some very minor losses to the extravagantly festooned vine leaves; sporadic kiln spit to the body and base, with some fine cracks to body and glaze, also on the base; some rubbing to the gilt decoration to the buttons of the figures jacket. Restoration : none other than - possibly - some very minor retouching of enamel to the aforementioned leaf-losses in a couple of places Dimensions : H 16.1 cm, Base area D 12.5 x W 13 cm
