Bronze Art Deco Veil Dancer by Armand Lemo on Marble

About the Item

Bronze Art Deco Veil Dancer mounted on marble by Armand Lemo. This sculpture depicts a dancing woman in the Art Deco style, with a veil-like element incorporated into the design. This double-patinated finish uses bronze, gold, and silver, a combination of patinas for the sculpture, also mounted on a very dark green marble base with a gold edging circa 1925. The sculpture features a dancing woman that incorporates a large sheet-like veil that covers much of her body except for the front which is in original silver patina. Her hair in a 1920s style incorporates a gold floral treatment as well. The term “veiled woman” refers to the sculpture rendered of a beautiful female dancer wearing some kind of draped or flowing attire that resembles a veil. Armand Lemo (1881-1935) An important French artist who worked in the early Art Deco period delving into research we learned that “Lemo” and “Melo” are, in fact, the same artist using two names for his work. Literature: ‘Bronzes, Sculptors and Founders’, by Harold Berman, published 1974. ‘Art Deco and Other Figures’ by Brian Catley, published in 1978.
