About the Item
“Spirit of Life” 20th century bronze figure. The original by American artist Robert Russin (1914-2007.)
The sculpture depicts a family of three, mother and father dancing while they both hold up their infant boy. An incredibly moving subject as depicted by one of the great living sculptors of the day.
The Original “Spirit of Life” bronze sculpture created in 1969. Bronze on black marble base, signed both in the bronze and in the metal placard on the marble base, with an overall dimension of 36 inches high. As for the Sculpture we offer it has only a metal placard but not signed on the bronze.
Robert Isaiah Russin began his career as a WPA sculptor, and received dozens of commissions during his career both public and private. Russin created the famous bronze figurative sculpture that resides in front of the City of Hope in California, the "Spirit of Life" fountain sculpture . He was also a WPA sculptor. Memberships included the National Sculpture Society, Audubon Artists and the American Artists Congress. His work is in the collection of the U.S. Navy at Abbott Laboratories, the Hyde Park Museum and City College of New York. Realism Figurative Sculpture
