Goldscheider French Art Deco Bronze Sculpture of a Nude Male Ballet Dancer

About the Item

A rare and fine period French Art Deco bronze sculpture of a male dancer or ballerina (nude but for a dancer's belt). The dancer stands with outstretched arms and leg bearing a strained or yearning expression. The bronze was cast by Arthur Goldscheider in Paris in the 1920s or 1930s and signed in the plinth for the artist C. Vez (about whom we can find very little information.) Arthur Goldscheider was the heir to Friedrich Goldscheider and a driving force in his own right in the decorative arts in 1920s Paris (and in Europe in general in the early part of the 20th century.) He had a hand in production of a litany of important work over several decades, and his firm played a key taste-making role that reverberates in the worlds of art and design to the current day. The side of the plinth bears an Arthur Goldscheider / Cire Perdue / Paris pastille and the top of the plinth bear what appears to be a C Vez artist's signature. Height: ca. 16 1/4 in.
