Hand carved redwood figurative abstract totem by Bay Area artist Joseph John Hudner (1909-1971) created in 1934. Hudner attended UC Berkeley, worked for the Federal Art Project during the 1930s and had an exhibition at the SFMA in 1935. The piece is signed on the back of the sculpture, Hudner 1934. Its unusual to find sculptures in this gene from this period, the early days of the Organic Modern style.
