"Fallen Gladiator", Rare Gold-Glazed Art Deco Sculpture by Elek, Hungary

About the Item

This depiction of a half-nude gladiator, wounded or dying, with his shield to one side, was sculpted by Kóbor Elek, one of Hungary’s most celebrated artists in the 1920s. The original bronze of “Gladiator” is held by a museum in Hungary, and ceramic renditions are extremely rare. The gold glaze is lustrous and the figure’s pathos and twisted agony are palpable. The piece is signed and dated.
