Figurative Sculpture in Calamine and Biscuit, Art Nouveau signed G. Omerth.

About the Item

Calamine figure patinated in various golden tones, representing a woman in a period dress, carrying a chest. Her hands and face are biscuit, with some wear to the face. The base is in jade Lady with a chest ( probably Marguerite of Faust. Faust is an opera in five acts by Charles Gounod with a French libretto by Jules Barbier and Michel Carré from Carré's Faust et Marguerite, itself loosely based on Faust, Part One by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. It debuted at the Théâtre Lyrique on the Boulevard du Temple in Paris on March 19, 1859, with influential sets designed by Charles-Antoine Cambon and Joseph Thierry, The dates of Omerth's life are not known in the literature. He was a student of the sculptor Albert-Ernest Carrier-Belleuse, worked as an artist from 1895 to 1925 and exhibited in the salons of the Société des Artistes Français in Paris. Omerth made numerous statuettes and statuettes of children, women, and men in the Classical, Art Nouveau, and Art Deco styles, most for the Éditeur d'art (art publisher) and caster Edmond Etling. He used materials such as bronze, chryselephantine, ivory, zinc and bisque.
