About the Item
A wonderful French 19th century Louis XVI st. Ormolu, Patinated Bronze, and Black Belgian marble statue of 'La Fortuna'. Fortuna is raised on a mottled black Belgian marble pedestal with a stunning foliate decorated Ormolu socle below a patinated Bronze ball which supports the statue above. She poses above the patinated Bronze ball on one leg holding an abundant spiral fluted cornucopia with flowers in one hand and a handful of cascading coins in the other. She is dressed in a flowing garment with her hair loosely tied back with a ribbon.
Louis Guillaume Fulconis - A French sculptor born in 1818. He exhibited at the Paris Salon from 1857 to 1872 and created statues in marble, plaster, and bronze. Some of his notable works include Actéon for the Louvre Court and Princess Clémence for the Luxembourg Garden. Fulconis was inspired by the Mercury and the Wheel of Fortune sculptures by Jean de Bologne, with his Mercury sculpture currently exhibited at the Museo Nazionale del Bargello in Florence. He passed away in 1873.
