French 19th Century Louis XVI Style Bronze Statue of L’Enlevement Des Sabines
About the Item
A sensational and large scale French 19th century Louis XVI st. bronze statue of L'Enlevement des Sabines on its original Base. The high quality bronze is raised by a circular fluted ebony base with fine and most decorative ormolu bands and striking fitted foliate chandelles. The bronze is raised by a circular base where the soldier's helmet and sword are lying on the ground. The handsome soldier is wearing his detailed armour grasping the beautiful Sabine woman in his arms. She is draped in period attire and raises her arms towards the sky in a sign of fear. Richly sculpted detail throughout, wonderful proportions. All original patina The base retains its original swivel mechanism to rotate the bronze and appreciate it from all angles.
