French Terracotta Reclining Lady Sculpture

About the Item

A beautiful late 19th century French terracotta sculpture of a reclining lady after the antique, possibly the Greek Muse, Erato. Titled Le Réve D’Amour – translating to ‘the dream of love’ – this antique sculpture is elegantly carved, depicting a partially nude female reclining on a bed of wheat and foliage. The depiction of the lyre and quiver of arrows to the front is suggestive of Erato, one of the 9 Muses of Greek Mythology associated with love and love poetry. Signed: J. Ferrier.
