Italian 19th Century Alabaster Statue of a Beautiful Maiden

About the Item

A striking Italian 19th century Alabaster statue of a beautiful maiden after a model by Antonio Canova. The statue is raised by a circular base with a most decorative ground like design where the wonderfully executed maiden is standing in front of a tree trunk. She is draped in a stunning richly sculpted flowing garment with her hair tied in an updo with one hand held up to her face with her other hand on her hip with a finely detailed floral wreath. Antonio Canova (1757 - 1822) was a renowned Italian sculptor and was known for his marble sculptures. Was regarded as the greatest of the Neo-Classical artists.
