John Farnham Lady & The Shrimp Ltd Edn Bronze Sculpture

About the Item

John Farnham was the ‘boy next door’ and his illustrious career began in the 1960’s with him being introduced to sculpture by his neighbour Henry Moore. At a young age John became Moore’s assistant and through this developed and mastered his own style, observing as well the practices of Moore assistants Anthony Caro, Phillip King and Isaac Witkin. While having worked at the Henry Moore Foundation for many decades John has also run his own studios in Hertfordshire where he works in bronze, stone and wood. Inspired by extensive worldwide travel John has combined the influences from his time with Moore with research into ancient and modern cultures producing a varied and interesting range of work and styles. He has exhibited extensively both in the UK and abroad and has worked as Artist in Residence in many notable Art learning institutions. He has carried out many commissions and his work is held in both private and public collections around the world. This delightful small bronze work titled Lady & The Shrimp is mounted on a rectangular wooden base with the bronze modeled as a stylized seated lady holding an oversized shrimp which appears to kissing her neck. The sculpture has distinct Moore influences and has a wonderful combination of polished and textured finishes with a dark and rich patina. The figure has a small disproportionate head with her hair forming a small pony tail with molded facial features. The bronze is signed Farnham and numbered 2/7 to the base of the front leg with title and signature also applied under the base being one from a limited edition of 7. One of several John Farnham pieces we will be offering. Provenance: From our own private collection and acquired directly from the artist. In good original condition.
