La Femme Au Voile by Jean Leon Gerome (1824-1904)
About the Item
Our bronze statue of La Femme au Voile (Woman with Veil) was cast by Siot Decauville of Paris after the original model by Jean Leon Gerome (1824-1904). 33 3/4 inches (85.7 cm) tall with fine patina and partially gilt surfaces, it is the largest size cast. Signed on the base with the mark of the foundry.
This is the largest casting made of this particular work, as noted in Gerald Ackerman's Gérôme catalogue raisonne, where he notes there were three versions: 86 cm, 66 cm and 48.5 cm.

Mounted to a green variegated marble plinth measuring 23 by 15 inches and with an overall height of 39 inches. According to the Benezit, Baucke studied under Karl Janssen at the Dusseldorf Academy of Fine Arts.
