Large Antique Nelli Roma Bronze Sculpture 'The Dying Gaul' on a Plinthe Base

About the Item

This very large and substantial antique sculpture was done by the Nelli Roma foundary of Italy in approximately 1900 and done in a Classical Roman style. The sculpture is a rendering of the 'Dying Gaul' or Dyling Gladiator and is done in a cast and patinated bronze, with a tiered base in granite and marble or slate. The sculpture is detailed in its casting and is clearly signed "Nelli Roma" on the back in small impressed capital letters. The artist of this piece is unknown.

    Repaired: There is an old repair to a crack across the base which is structurally sound and does not detract from the sculpture when mounted on top. This crack could be professionally restored prior to shipping if requested. Wear consistent with age and use. Minor structural damages. Some edge wear to the edges of the base and some wear to the bronze as presented in the photos, and consistent with age and use.
