Pair of Bronze Furietti Centaurs

About the Item

An excellent pair of opposing dore bronze Furietti Centaur reductions of those that were excavated at Hadrian’s Villa in Tivoli in 1735. The models are named after Giuseppe Furietti (1685-1764), the cardinal and antiquarian who discovered the marbles. Following their discovery, the Centaurs became highly admired by affluent collectors and especially by Grand Tour travelers. Today this handsome pair are an excellent example of the bronze craftsmanship of the time and present an excellent conversation piece. The dore and bronze finishes present a striking juxtaposition adding a chic element to any room.
