About the Item
Ulysse Gémignani (Paris, 1906-1973) "Satyres aux cymbales" French Art Deco bronze depicting two marching satyrs playing cymbals. Made in the 1930s with the lost wax bronze technique by Susse Freres in Paris, the piece remains in remarkable antique condition with desirable patina. Signed 'U. Gemignani' and marked 'cire perdue' ('lost wax') as well as stamped and marked by Susse Freres.
Ulysse Jean-Baptiste Antonin Marius Gemignani was a renown French sculptor who won the second grand prix de Rome in sculpture in 1932 and the first grand prix de Rome the following year. Numerous Gemignani pieces remain in French national collections, such as the Ecole Nationale Superieure des Beaux-Arts, the Petit Palais or the Musee d'Art Moderne in Paris.
