About the Item
This outdoor sculpture is from the very architecturally significant MacConnell Estate in La Jolla, California. The pair of residences on the beach bluff property were designed by William Kesling and Joseph Kowalski from 1947 to 1952. This Sculptute used outdoors was original to the property. Decades old, in a classis Regency style, it looks very modern and current today. The sculpture depicts atlas carrying the world. This exquisite, rare armillary depicted, the famed, titan, atlas, condemned to carry the sky on his shoulders for eternity. Some refer to this type of sculpture as an outdoor weathervane, but it is strictly for decorative purposes. Although designed in the 1940s, the sculpture obtains a very modern regency style aesthetic. It is an exquisite piece of art for the outdoors or indoors. One piece. Tall. It is a mix of metal and copper. Obtains a beautiful vintage patina. Unaltered and not cleaned/polished. 50.25" Tall. (One piece). Regency style stand is attached to sculpture). This piece is desired for a California auction for it's rarity and desireability. There is no other example to be found of this design, age and provenance with the unique matching regency stand.)
