Vintage Art Deco Dancer Sculpture Lueur Clarté with Onyx Ball by Max Le Verrier

About the Item

In 1928 Max Le Verrier created his famous CLARTÉ, a woman with a lighted glass ball, the main work of his career as a sculptor. In fact, the needed several live models: one for the head, a second for the upper part of the body and a third for the legs. For this last part he asked an Afro American dancer who played in the revue theaters of Josephine Baker. The sculpture shows the popular presentation of a female act on a very esthetical way and is characteristic for the Art Deco era with its typical bob haircut and the minimalism in its design. As a lighted sculpture it was made in 4 sizes: One life-sized bronze in 1.60 meter and one in 85 cm (both named CLARTE) Two smaller ones with 65 cm (called Lumina) and 38 cm (called LUEUR LUMINEUSE). The here shown sculpture "Lueur Jade" is the only one without electricity. Instead of a lighted glass ball you have a beautiful 5 cm jade ball. Original Max Le Verrier, signed Original French Art Deco, 1920/30s Materials: Spelter (French: régule), marble base and onyx ball Original green patina Dimensions: Width 18 cm Height 33.5 cm (with onyx ball) Height 29 cm (without ball) Depth 10 cm (socle) Diameter 5 cm (onyx ball).
