18th Century French Clock Tower Mechanism

About the Item

The sculptural silhouette of this antique iron clock mechanism draws the eye and ignites the imagination. Made in France in the 1700s, this piece offers a slice of history: one of the inventions that ushered in the Industrial Age, the cutting edge of technology at the time. A complex system of toothed gear wheels sits within a raised metal frame; the wheels activate the pivot at the top, which would have moved the clanger of the bell.
