Italian Art Nouveau Period Silvered Bronze Shield by Argenteria Broggi

About the Item

This wonderful piece is crafted from silvered bronze and is a fine demonstration of the Art Nouveau style. The shield is circular in form and is set with twin handles to either side modelled in high relief as sprays of leaves laden with bunches of berries. The shield is cast with an image of a nymph and a satyr amidst low-relief flora. The figures are deeply cast and superbly finished, evincing great movement and dynamism. The top of the rim of the shield is signed ‘Argenteria Broggi Milano’, and the piece is supported on a painted metal easel.
