  • Large Antique Crucifix with a Hand Carved & Bronzed Wooden Corpus of Jesus 1800s
    Located in Lisse, NL
Unique and large size, antique corpus of Christ on a blackened oak cross. If you are looking for a large crucifix with a not too overwhelming corpus of Christ for your house of prayer or for your home(chapel) then this unique ecclesiastical antique from the late 1800s could be the one. According to the former owner, this ancient bronze-color painted and sizable corpus and cross came from a monastery in Germany. The details in the anatomy of this Christ sculpture are very well carved and they clearly reveil the work of a seasoned carver / sculptor. We were also immediately impressed by the coloring, because the patina on this corpus from a little distance very much resembles the patina of antique bronze sculptures that you can find in every major market square here in Europe. We also particularly appreciate the details in the face and the position of the head of Christ. Both the angle in which He bowes His head and the details in His face are very realistic and they leave a lasting impression. We believe the artist has perfectly captured the moment in which Jesus bowed His head as He died on the cross. The ebonized oak cross is original to this corpus, but we think it was ebonized later in time, because it makes this unique and stunning sculpture stand out better. This solid oak cross has metal-strengthened openings in the back (both atop and at the bottom) via which this crucifix is safe and easy to mount. Because of the quality, the rarity, the large size, the beauty and the deeper meaning we are convinced that this antique crucifix too will find a new home soon. Whether it be in a private home, monastery or in a church, this work of religious art from the late 1800's will never fail to impress. Thanks to the pair of metal hooks on the back, safely mounting this ecclesiastical antique tight to your wall will be very easy to do. Our fair price for this one of a kind crucifix even includes perfect packing (in a custom made crate) and also worldwide delivery from our store to your door in just 4 to 6 days. Maximum height x width x depth of the cross & corpus: 56 x 30.5 x 8 inches. Maximum height x width of the antique wooden corpus...

  • Rare Pair of bronze statues of French Lions, 1800s
    Located in Milano, IT
In the soft glow of a dimly lit room, there stands a pair of French statuettes from the enchanting 1800s, a testament to a bygone era of elegance and opulence. These remarkable works of art, fashioned from lustrous bronze, exude an air of timeless grandeur that beckons you to step closer and marvel at their exquisite craftsmanship. Each statuette is a masterpiece in its own right, a testament to the skill and dedication of the master sculptor who brought them into existence. The attention to detail is nothing short of astonishing, with every sinew of the majestic lions' bodies meticulously chiseled and lovingly rendered. The craftsmanship is so fine that one cannot help but be captivated by the lifelike expressions and powerful stances of these regal creatures. These two lions, poised in a position of imposing authority, emanate an aura of strength and royalty that transcends time and space. Their heads held high, their fierce eyes gazing into the distance, they embody the very essence of majesty and dominance. Their finely chiseled manes cascade down their muscular necks, a testament to their untamed, wild nature. But it is not just their form that captivates the beholder; it is the material itself that adds to their allure. Cast entirely in bronze, these lions bear traces of antiquity beneath their paws, a subtle reminder of the centuries that have passed since their creation. The patina of age only enhances their mystique, as if they have borne witness to a thousand stories, silently guarding the secrets of the past. In symbolism, lions are revered as symbols of strength and royalty, and these statuettes do justice to that legacy. They are more than mere sculptures...
