Sculpted from Amethyst, two of the most majestic, palatial and incredibly rare cassolettes created Exceptionally rare pair of Louis XVI gilt bronze and Amethyst cassolettes.The rarity of this majestic pair cannot be overstated, they are without question two of the finest examples of rare stone you will ever see. Designed in the most exquisite Royal taste, using truly fabulously figured Amethyst, these finely detailed pair are clearly inspired by the classical style, with favoured motifs & shapes derived from Roman & Greek antiquity. The original gilt Bronze, burnished majestically in the right places contrasts to perfection with the richly coloured crystalline Siberian Amethyst. The beautiful winged females convey such warm expression and are wonderfully sculpted, cast and gilded. They hold beautifully drawn and cast floral garlands & terminate with a hoof foot. The Amethyst base with a gilt Bronze beaded collar and resting on three shaped feet. These beautiful masterpieces are Museum quality for the rarity of the Amethyst they are crafted from. Amethyst has been a prized gemstone for centuries. For a large portion of history, Amethyst was valued on par with the Diamond. Because of its resemblance to the colour of wine, the ancient Greeks associated Amethyst with Dionysus, the God of wine. Both the Romans & Greeks reflected beliefs that Amethyst kept its wearer clear headed and quick witted in battle and in business affairs. Because Amethyst was associated with wine, it was therefore believed that wearing Amethyst prevented drunkenness. It is the birthstone for Pisces and the month of February and the gemstone for the 6th anniversary of marriage. The stone is included in Royal collections all-over the world, from ancient Egypt to the British Crown Jewels. Ancient civilizations prized the stone higher than many gems, including Ruby & Sapphire. Amethyst saw its place in the Christian church, worn on Bishops’ rings. The Royal purple colour used to symbolize Christ. Saint Valentine was thought to wear a ring set with an antique Amethyst carved with an image of Cupid. The stone is also a symbol of Saint Matthias.
