Giuman, Memento Mori Trittico Evolution, Murano Glass Lost Wax Cast, 2010
About the Item
Interesting glass interpretation from Giuman. The Murano artist who refined the lost wax casting in glass.
Very fine work. Artist Giuorgio Giuman was able to do the casting without trapping bubbles and using Murano color palette.
The subject of the trittico is fascinating. There is a tradition of representing human skull in art. It's called memento mori. The monition of futility of actions in life.
Here Giuman is playing with evolution, like the series of skulls that represents the passages in the Homo Sapiens evolution
The series H. erectus, H. abilis H. sapiens that we are used to see at school.
He is imagining the future evolution, where our specie is the extinct one. This is the cobalt blue one. The next is the light green one that keeps similarity, having a blobby expanded brain and some brilliants to represent an added artificial AI plug-in. The third in pure clear is an android like skull.
The concept of Memento Mori here applies not to a person, but to the whole humanity. Remember we are not here forever.
Very interesting concept done with a high skill and technique.
