Large Natural Chalcedony Plate Specimen

About the Item

A large natural Chalcedony plate specimen originating from Madagascar. Chalcedony, from the Latin Chalcedonian, is a compact variety of microcrystalline quartz. This striking mineral is composed of microscopic fibres which is white when pure. Its beautiful crystals and scale would make a stunning new display piece inside any home, or collectors cabinet. More on Chalcedony Many fragments of Chalcedony contain microscopic elements of other minerals, giving a range of colours. Its name derives from the ancient port of Turkey, which was once called Khalkedon in Asian Minor, where there were deposits. This clever specimen forms in cavities cracks, and through pre-existing rocks, in particular volcanic rocks. Due to chalcedony forming in various colours, it has been used for an array of decorative items over time, such as statues, sculptures, bowls, and, more commonly, jewellery.
