Antique Italian Faience Pottery Apothecary Semi d' Agnocasto Drug Jar

About the Item

A very fine antique faience pottery jar. The jar is marked for "Semi D' Agno Custo". It held vitex or chaste tree seeds (semi d'agnosasto in Italian). The base bears an old "Wales" sticker that has a faint (inaccurate) Marseille pottery attribution. The jar is decorated in a typical French faience palette with pink flowers and purple swags, so it is possible that it the bottle comes from a border region potter. In any case, it is a very fine addition to any antique apothecary jar or Albarello collection! Date: 19th century or earlier Overall condition: It is in overall good, as-pictured, used estate condition with some chips to the rim and base, some fine and light surface scratches, and other signs of expected light wear consistent with age. Measurements: Height ca. 9 3/4 in. Diameter ca. 6 in.
