Set Collection Vintage Apothecary Chemist Pharmacy Shop Glass Display Bottles

About the Item

- A rare set of Royal Pharmaceutical Society Collectors Apothecary Bottles, circa 1960. - There are five bottles in total each of a different colour, each bottle is labeled in Latin with exquisite gold leaf, the Royal Pharmaceutical Society crest adorns each of the bottle necks. - They are incredible decorative pieces, each one containing a fabulous pointed glass stopper. As a collection these look wonderful together on display with diamond like qualities. - Two of the bottles have had their glass stoppers glued into the neck, one of which has had damage but been delicately restored. The black bottle has a very minor chip above the neck and on the rim. - Height 24cm, Width 14cm. Apothecary is one term for a medical professional who formulates and dispenses medicines to physicians, surgeons and patients. Label Under Glass bottles enjoyed their peak popularity from the 1800's to the early 1900's and were used for storage of many acids and bases, as well as stock compounding solutions used by many pharmacists of the time. The apothecary bottle employed an ornate label that was covered by a thin layer of glass to prevent damage, often gold leafed they were visually attractive as well as functional. The contents were listed on the label often in Latin, which was the language of medicine up until recent times.

    Repaired: Two of the bottles have had their glass stoppers glued into the neck, one of which has had damage but been delicately restored. The black bottle has a very minor chip above the neck and on the rim. These are not particularly visible. Wear consistent with age and use.
