Wes Hunting Signed “Colorfield” Art Glass Decanter
About the Item
An art glass decanter by the American glass artist Wes Hunting (born 1958). From his Colorfield series, this decanter stands almost 27" tall is made from predominantly purple glass with a fan-shaped stopper at the top in blue and yellow glass. The body of the decanter is accented throughout with millefiori and other glass techniques in pink, orange, yellow, white, green, and red. The work is signed to the base and to the lower portion of the body.
Hunting studied at Kent State University where he started off as a painting major. However, he stumbled on glassblowing while working at the living history museum Hale Farm in Kent, Ohio and was happy to learn there was a glass art program offered at Kent State University. While studying glass art at Kent State during the late 1970s, he was able to attend workshops offered through the program that included visiting glass artists such as Marvin Lipofsky, Fritz Dreisbach, Joel Myers, and Dale Chihuly. In 1980, Hunting attended the Penland School of Crafts and in 1981, visited Italy for two months to visit glass studios in Venice and Murano. He currently runs a glass studio with his son, Wesley Justin, in rural Wisconsin.
