Hand made terracotta confit jar from Provence (2)
The bottom half was left unglazed to allow the pot to keep cool while half buried in the ground.
Good antique condition with no cracks
This would have been used mainly to conserve confit duck as well as other foods. The bottom half was left unglazed to allow the pot to keep cool while half buried in the ground. The top was glazed to repel insects and the base being clay would absorb the humidity and keep the jar's contents cool.
