French Blue Stoneware Ceramic Crock in Blue and Cream with Lid Late 1800s

About the Item

A charming antique English ceramic earthenware salt crock in blue and cream with its original lid. This provincial-style pot was created by hand, in the late 1800s to early 1900s. It is round and quite heavy as most stoneware is. Often referred to as spongeware, the body and lid have a light cream background, with a blue sponge applied design. The lid is original to the piece and features a button finial for lifting. The underside of the lid is unglazed. How we would style it: Bring a warm, friendly, and rustic vibe to your kitchen or bookshelf. This antique jar could be used in a number of ways. Some are used as salt or bean pots. Others as jam or mustard jars. As this piece has a small hairline crack to the side, we do not suggest using it as a vase, as it will not hold water. Dimensions: 5.25" Diameter 4.25" Tall.
