Japanese Antique Pottery Hanging Vase/Edo/1800s/Boat-Shaped Vase
Japanese Antique Pottery Hanging Vase/Edo/1800s/Boat-Shaped Vase

Japanese Antique Pottery Hanging Vase/Edo/1800s/Boat-Shaped Vase

Located in Sammu-shi, Chiba

This is a black-glazed boat-shaped pottery made in the late Edo period of Japan. This will be a hanging vase. Pour water directly into this and decorate the flowers. Also, perhaps this is a pottery called Seto-yaki. Seto is an ancient kiln located in Aichi Prefecture. Various shapes and colors were produced there, and in the late Edo period, dark glazed pottery was also produced. When a dark brown glaze is applied, the areas with thick glaze look black, and the areas with thin glaze look brown. I put water directly into this and left it for a day, but there was no water leakage. I would say it is in very good condition. Although it is a small item, it has a very strong presence. It has a glossy and elegant appearance. There are many types of Seto pottery...

Tall MCM Swedish "Paprika" Floor Vase by Anna-Lisa Thomson for Upsala Ekeby

By Anna-Lisa Thomson, Upsala Ekeby

Located in San Diego, CA

Exceptional Mid-Century Modern Swedish floor vase from the Paprika series by ceramist and painter, Anna-Lisa Thomson for Upsala Ekeby, circa 1950s. The vase is in very good vintage condition with no cracks or chips and measures 6" D x 14.5" H. It is signed on the underside. Thomson is perhaps best known for her Paprika (Peppers) series, which she designed in 1948 and it is Paprika that would go on to become the best-selling series in Upsala-Ekeby’s history. The series is characterised with slender, seemingly austere vases with a decor of glazed white or green, lance-shaped leaves. The combination of the leaves and the unglazed elements hit a striking contrast. The Paprika vases...

Crystalline Glaze Ceramic Ikebana Vase, Blue, American Studio Pottery, 2003

Crystalline Glaze Ceramic Ikebana Vase, Blue, American Studio Pottery, 2003

Located in Clifton Springs, NY

The vintage studio pottery ceramic ikebana vase is decorated with crystalline glaze in striking, bright blue and yellow palette. The vase was hand thrown on a wheel; blue color crystals on muted yellow colored base were grown in a kiln during a very long, controlled firing. Each crystalline piece is unique due to the nature of the glaze. The vase was allowed to develop an abundance of distinct, graphic crystals, creating a free-flowing abstract pattern and adding rich texture to the minimally shaped piece. The opening is placed asymmetrically on the side of the vase and is outfitted with flower frog. The vase was made by Wizards of Clay...

'Rimini blu' glazed ceramic vase on sterling silver pedestal. Designed by Aldo Londi for by Bitossi. Italy, 1960s. This eye-catching vase is made of blue glazed ceramic with engraved patterns surrounding the central part. Measures: 20,5 cm height x 16 cm diameter // 8,07 in height x 6,29 in diameter About Bitossi (Manufacturer) Like a Fellini movie, the ceramics of this famed Italian company embody a creative spectrum that ranges from the playful and earthy to the high-minded and provocative. Based in Florence, Bitossi Ceramiche draws on craft traditions that date back to the 1500s. These find expression in the artisanal vases and animal figures by the firm’s longtime art director Aldo Londi, as well as the colorful...
