10-Piece Collection Guerin Bouffioulx Belgian Pottery Greek and Egyptian Designs

About the Item

An outstanding collection of 10 large Guerin pottery vases and vessels in the much sought after Greek and Egyptian designs by Roger Guerin. These pieces were made after the Second World War in the atelier of Roger Guérin in the Belgian town of Bouffioulx. Roger Guerins son Jules took over for Roger in 1945 and continued to produce the designs of his father. All the pieces are signed, and some retain the original paper labels of "Guerin Bouffioulx" or "Tourne a la Main"(made by hand). The pieces in the collection date from the mid-1950s to the mid-1960s. Guerin used a very hard, impermeable, vitrifield, opaque stoneware in all his creations; all these qualities have earned it the nickname "crockery stone". These qualities are obtained by heating it to a very high temperature (1250 to 1350°C) and adding sea-salt into the kiln while it is being fired. This technique creates the deep glowing finish to the glaze particularly associated with Belgian Bouffioulx pottery.
