pair of Continental 19th century black Lacquer and Giltwood planters
About the Item
An elegant pair of Continental 19th century black Lacquer and Giltwood planters. Each stunning black lacquer planter is raised on a mottled base with foliate patterns showcasing Indian influences and motifs throughout. Each planter displays eight most decorative panels portraying the fascinating mythological story of 'Hanuman And Suvannamaccha'. Wonderful column like reserves flank each panel and lead up to the mottled top rim with similar gilded motifs as the base. The interior edge of each planter is accented with rose colored patination which flanks the original removable liner.
Hanuman And Suvannamaccha- Hanuman, the devoted disciple of Lord Rama, encounters Suvannamaccha, a mermaid princess from Thai folklore, during his journey. Despite their differences, they form a deep bond and face trials together, teaching them about the power of love to overcome obstacles and unite souls across diverse backgrounds.
