Set of 5 planters, decorative vases by Dutch Mobach in clay. Midcentury modern.

About the Item

Set of large planters / decorative vases by dutch company Mobach. Strong and heavy in light various tones of beige and brown. _____________________________________________________________ The company was founded in 1895 in Utrecht as the Utrechtsche Pottenfabriek by Klaas Jaan Mobach, who came from a Frisian potter's family. Several generations have continued it. The process of making ceramics has remained almost the same throughout history. The pottery is turned in small series or as one-offs or built up manually from clay rolls or plates, after which it is glazed. The man-sized planters and vases in particular are well-known ceramic products from Mobach. Piet Klaarhamer and Gerrit Rietveld designed a number of vases. The factory building on Kanaalweg along the Merwede Canal, dating from 1913, together with three associated workers' houses, have the status of a national monument. Part of the collection is housed at that location in a museum that is open once a year. Since 1910, the Mobach family also ran a shop at Oudegracht 198 where they sold their ceramics. The store was taken over by another owner in 1970 and moved to the Choorstraat in 1975
