French 19th Century Louis XVI St. Pink Granite and Ormolu Lidded Urn

About the Item

A spectacular French 19th century Louis XVI st. pink granite and ormolu lidded urn. The urn is raised by a square ormolu base with a fine mottled border, foliate designs and a most decorative twisted ribbon wrap around band. Above the socle pedestal is the elegantly shaped body encased by a beautiful finely detailed pierced ormolu mount with luxuriant acanthus leaves and lovely scrolled flowers. Above is a striking and finely detailed swaging floral garland tied with a charming ribbon and leading to most impressive snake designed handles at each side. Above the slender neck is the removable lid decorated with a richly chased top acorn finial.
