A fine and impressive antique Victorian English sterling silver vase with military interest (Durham Light Infantry); an addition to our ornamental silverware collection. This fine antique Victorian sterling silver vase has a tapering cylindrical form to a domed circular spreading foot. The upper and lower portions of the body of the vase are embellished with embossed and chased stylized scrolling leaf and bead decoration in a swirl design. The body is further ornamented with a band of six cartouches amidst a shaped border accented with a leaf motif between each; four of the cartouches remain vacant. To one side there is a contemporary bright cut engraved crest of the Durham Light Infantry amidst the inscription ‘Presented to Officers, 3rd Bn, The Durham Light Infantry’, with the presentation inscription ‘Officers Race, won by, Lieut H J Sowerby, 1887’ to the other side. The upper rim of this impressive vase is encircled with an applied moulded border to the rim. The vase retains the original gilt interior. In 1758 General John Lambton of County Durham first raised the 68th Regiment of Foot as part of the British Army. A magnificent, fine and impressive antique Georgian English sterling silver wine cooler made by Henry Chawner; an addition to our antique wine and drink related silverware collection This magnificent antique George III sterling silver wine cooler has a circular rounded form onto a shaped circular spreading foot. The surface of the cooler is embellished with exceptional chased floral and scrolling foliate decoration, all on a matte background. The decoration to the body incorporates a large scroll bordered cartouche to either side, each ornamented with a contemporary engraved coat of arms depicting firstly a chevron charged with three lions passant guardant, secondly in chief three cross-crosslet and to the base a lion passant. This antique wine cooler is fitted with an exceptional pair of cast silver handles realistically modelled in the form of an eagle with raised wings, perched on a large scrolling leaf design. This impressive cooler is supported by a cast circular shaped spreading foot embellished with further floral and foliate decoration, accented with a large scrolling border to the rim. This exceptional Georgian wine cooler retains the original, hallmarked detachable liner and push fit cover. The cast sterling silver torus-shaped cover is ornamented with large floral and foliate designs, with an opposing scrolling border paralleling the shaped rim.
