Bertoncello Ceramiche Italia Vintage Vase in Colored and Glazed Clay

About the Item

We kindly suggest you read the whole description, because with it we try to give you detailed technical and historical information to guarantee the authenticity of our objects. Particular and original ceramic vase; it is made of clay and finished with a special glazing that makes the object unusual and particular; the vase has an organic shape that emphasizes the volumes while the rounded and recessed hole and the vertical lines give lightness and softness to the whole. It was produced between 1965 and 1970 by Bertoncello Ceramiche based on a design by Giovanni Bertoncello in collaboration with the well-known artistic innovator Roberto Rigon. Bertoncello Ceramiche was founded in 1956 in Schiavon, in the province of Vicenza (Italy) by partners Lini, Marco Pizzato, and Giovanni Bertoncello, with the name of "LPB", soon changed its name to "Bertoncello Ceramiche d'Arte" and the management remained exclusive to Giovanni Bertoncello who, thanks to his artistic skills and entrepreneurial flair, led the company to achieve great success both in Italy and on the foreign market, so much so that in the early seventies the factory employed over 30 people. Unfortunately, not much is known about the company because all of its catalogs and archives were destroyed when the company closed in 1999. The forms of Bertoncello's ceramics are often very sculptural and geometric and look like small studies or maquettes for massive modernist sculptures yet to be built. This sculptural appearance of many pieces was enhanced by the use of feet that subtly lift the piece from the surface on which it sits. They are reminiscent of the works of Henry Moore and Barbara Hepworth and the architecture of the period. The vase is in excellent condition. Measures diameter cm.23, depth cm.8. For all our shipments we use special packaging materials (wooden crates, styrofoam, etc.) for maximum protection and safety of the objects.

Particular and original German ceramic vase colored with a beautiful shade of red and a dark and vivid black; it has a simple shape but at the same time innovative and modernist; the beautiful and bright colors are balanced and proportioned respecting a minimalist design; the glazing of the vase was obtained by first laying down one color, proceeding to fix it by firing it in the kiln, then the same procedure was carried out for the other color; on the bottom is the mark "W. Germany"; it was produced between 1968 and 1971 in a craft workshop in the city of Dresden (then in East Germany), an important center for the production of porcelain and ceramics.
