Crystal Gauge Vase
About the Item
Lead-free crystal.
Mouth-blown by Harrachov in the Giant Mountains of Bohemia.
(The wooden mould in the picture is not included.)
The Gauge vase adopts the characteristics of a flower. The vase is kept upright by the weight of the water. As the flowers absorb water, the vase "wilts," alerting us to the need for replenishment.
We lose something when we bring flowers indoors. There is no wind to animate the flowers. The vase keeps the flowers firm, preventing them from wilting as they should while they are dying.
A tool used to measure and display a quantity is called a gauge. The angle of the vase's neck serves as a gauge for the amount of water left in the vase.
The Gauge is meant to sway and lean, and when it is fully hydrated, it will tilt; otherwise, it will return to its optimal equilibrium. To avoid overbalancing, the quantity of flowers is restricted by the thin neck. The vase is able to gently sway, giving the impression of flowers dancing in a breeze.

Rokos
Playful, handmade home décor with unexpected behaviours . . . The London-based studio makes art that becomes alive when used, expressing their personalities and aestheticising their own functions. Established by designer and artist Jim Rokos, the company specialises in glass work and creates a variety of vases, candleholders, and decanters. They can adopt the demeanour of the housed object (Gauge flower vase), mimic the actions of drinkers (13° 60° 104° decanter), or politely indicate to lingering dinner guests when it's time for them to get home (≲ 231 MIN candleholder). ROKOS crafts objects that lie at the nexus of industry and craft; each is meticulously executed throughout the entire process, from design to manufacturing. The Gauge vase won the 2017 German Design Award for Excellent Product Design, while the 13° 60° 104° decanter took home the Reddot Design Award. The German Design Awards granted a special mention to the ≲ 231 MIN.
The Times Luxx, the Financial Times How to Spend It, Wired, the Sunday Times Style, Monocle, and Icon have all featured works. ARTIST
Jim Rokos began his career as a model-maker in the motion picture and television industries, working on projects like Band of Brothers, Tomb Raider, Victoria & Albert, and Muppet Treasure Island. In 2006, he earned a master's degree in industrial design. Several of his pieces are held by the university in the CSM Museum & Study Collection.

Included: brush, 7 X 6" long church candles, 4 X lighting tightens, wooden gift box. German Design Award 2021 - special mention. The timepiece lets the user adjust the amount of water that goes into the holder to determine when the flame will go out. As the candle reduces its base rises upwards to where a restriction in the glass ends, and the candle falls over onto its side, extinguishing itself in the water. We are taught by the Bauhaus that "less is more." Here, for more burn time, add less water. The candleholder is shaped from the highest quality Italian borosilicate glass. They are individually mouth-blown and formed by a highly skilled craftsman on a lathe using...Category
