French 19th Century Louis XVI St. Rouge Griotte and Ormolu Vase
About the Item
A high quality French 19th century Louis XVI st. Rouge Grotto marble and ormolu vase. The urn is raised by a square base with a decorative ormolu band below a fine berried laurel ormolu band and marble socle pedestals. The body displays rich foliate ormolu movements and at the center is a striking pierced ormolu band with charming cherubs playing musical instruments amidst fine rinceau shaped patterns. At each side are large and richly chased ormolu mounts of Bacchus in a satin and burnished finish. Above a twisted rope design is the impressive ormolu rim with seashell movements. The urn is also finished with ormolu on the inside. All original gilt throughout.
