About the Item

"Fungi Pot" is the result of patient observation of the forest and its inhabitants, carried on by Antonio Manara, an interior architect based in Milan, self-produced under the edition “Fuocovodoo”, and represented exclusively by 1+1 as part of its contemporary research project.  These vases, as well as other furniture pieces that you'll find in our inventory, are the result of a long and patient work, carried out with traditional instruments and techniques, starting from the choice of a fallen treen in the woods of Val Grande or Val Mastallone, and finishing, weeks later, in Antonio’s small laboratory in the Bovisa neighborhood, in Milan. Each piece is impossible to reproduce and therefore unique. To explain the process that lead to the creation of these vases, we quote the words of the designer: "By examining some species such as Fomes Formentarium and Birch Polypore (mushrooms that grow on stems at different height), I realized that the symbiosis they trigger with the tree leads them to fully become part of the trunk, through a process of lignification of the cap. Thus taking advantage of this “fossilization,” the mushroom is mechanically grafted into the pot by means of a wood plug. Since the tools I use to carry on my research are borrowed from logging and bushcraft, such as wedges, mallets, carving knives, gouges, axes and fire, this led me to make the body of the vase by splitting a log with an axe as if it was a fire log. Eventually I finished each vase with a black varnish layer." Please check our inventory for more pieces from this series.
