Handmade 21st Century Round Pasteur Vase in Bone White by Elyse Graham
About the Item
The soft-hued and playful Pasteur vase is handmade by artist Elyse Graham in her Los Angeles studio.
This collection of vessels is inspired by our incredible and diverse microbiome.
The artist is known for her striking color palette and her proclivity for juxtaposing unusual hues.
Though often thought to be either ceramic or glass, these pieces are neither. Graham has designed a unique process for creating these pieces. Each Drip vase is hand-cast with hydrocal plaster inside of a unique balloon shape. The interior of each piece is poured with layers of resin, making it waterproof. Finally, each Drip vase is hand-dyed with custom mixed pigments and then sealed with a UV resistant acrylic coating.

Elyse Graham
Founded in 2014 and based in Los Angeles, the Elyse Graham studio is a place where unusual materials and experimental processes are implemented to create a melding of art and object. We design by making--with a sense of curiosity, wonder and joy. We design and produce every piece by hand in our Los Angeles studio. The work is driven by the processes Graham develops for the very specific materials she uses, most notably plaster and resin. Our one of a kind Drip Vases are created with a process Graham designed to cast plaster inside of a flexible latex balloon mold. The interiors of the vessels are then sealed with layers of poured resin, making them functional pieces. Graham has also created a technique for dying the plaster exterior of the vases. Each piece is hand dip-dyed, layer by layer, and then sealed with a protective coating. This series of vessels, dyed in muted earth tones, is inspired by glacial erosion, layered metamorphic rock, and the magnificent coastal landscapes of the artist's native California. Our new Black Magic Collection of resin vessels and furniture is inspired by the concept of revealing that which has been hidden from sight, but remains ever-present. Work from the Elyse Graham studio has recently been published in T Magazine, Veranda, Harper's Bazaar, House Beautiful, and Interior Design, among others.
We are happy to create a custom color palette for you.
