Japanese Contemporary Black Brown Hand-Glazed Porcelain Vase by Master Artist, 2

About the Item

Exquisite Japanese contemporary hand-glazed decorative porcelain vase in the artist's beloved signature pattern in an elegant upright form in stunning caramel, black and gold, a signed masterpiece by highly acclaimed master artist known for his signature caramel, green, purple, wine red and turquoise colors. He is the recipient of numerous prestigious awards recognizing his many unique contributions to the centuries old art. This widely respected artist is a master of the Yohen technique, roughly translated as “alchemy of the kiln,” in which minute variations in closely-guarded glaze recipes and kiln temperatures produce a unique palette of hues and patterns manifested in subtle but awe-inspiring gradations of color. One of his most notable signature gradation patterns is referred to as the “galaxy,” where the alchemy of the kiln produces the effect of millions of stars glowing faintly in distant skies. In this stunning piece, the mixture of iron oxides in the glaze creates a striking "tenmoku" pattern in his signature black and caramel colors. The mesmerizing pattern, combined with tits elegant shape of the vase, creates a memorable piece that invites the viewer to approach and explore the details.. This unique hand-glazed porcelain vase comes in a custom made wooden case signed by the artist. Dimensions: H 11 in D 5 in

  • Japanese Porcelain Dragon Glazed Vase Mazuku Kozan
    By Makuzu Kozan
    Located in Atlanta, GA
A porcelain vase with dragon motif by Japanese imperial potter Makuzu Kozan (1842-1916), circa 1900s. The vase is made in what is considered early phase of his underglaze period during late Meiji era. In a classic elongated baluster form, the surface of the vase was decorated in an unusual pink mist on a white and aubergine background (called Morotai, the Hazy style), on which a flying dragon is showcased on the center. The dragon was outlined in iron red and filled with the aubergine color and was artistically emphasized on its bulging eyes, claws, scales and a long tail. It was the sole focus of the design circumventing the entire body of the vase. The imagery calls in mind the dragon decoration found in Korean...
