Japanese Green Gold Blue Porcelain Vase by Contemporary Master Artist

About the Item

Exceptional contemporary Japanese porcelain vase, a masterpiece from the artist's exclusive signature collection, extremely intricately hand painted in blue, green, black and gold by highly acclaimed master porcelain artist of the Imari-Arita region of southern Japan and recipient of numerous awards for his unique work and exceptional application of gold and platinum on porcelain. In 2016, the British Museum added a work by this artist to its collection of contemporary Japanese porcelain a large lidded jar in the Imari-Arita polychrome enamel tradition. This stunning hand painted porcelain vase in vivid green and blue features the scene of auspicious Japanese pine trees and eagles. In Japanese mythology pine trees symbolize longevity and in a famous Noh play called "Takasago no uta" or "Takasago song" pine trees symbolize lifelong happiness together as a couple. According to Japanese mythology eagles symbolize the power in nature. The vase showcases a dense mosaic of extremely intricate patterns created by finely drawn lines of gold. This produces a stunning dream-like illusion of a “transparent” canvas on which fully articulated magic mallets appear to be floating. The same intricate pattern continues, to decorate the back of the vase with the artist’s signature in the center. To add to the elegance of the whole piece, the base and neck are decorated in a rich palette of dark green, red and black, enhanced by the generous use of gold. "Fired-on gold," the artist's exclusive signature style highlights unique techniques for incorporating gold and platinum into the hand painting and multiple firing processes that yield a stunningly opulent look. The polychrome over glaze is fired at 800 degrees, followed by the application of gold and platinum that are fired at slightly lower temperature to maintain the luster of the precious metals. As a result, a single piece may undergo as many as 5-10 firings. This artist's profile is available upon request. This magnificent porcelain piece comes in a custom made wooden case signed by the artist. Dimensions: H 12 in, D 12 in.
