Japanese Pair Meiji Twin Handled Moriage Floral Painted Vases

About the Item

An exceptional pair Japanese Meiji twin handled decorated with moriage patterning on a floral painted ground dating from around 1900. The porcelain vases stand on a shaped round foot with a narrow stem and large round bulbous body with a narrow neck and flared small top. Ornate raised loop handles are applied to either side of the body and resting on the top rim. The vases are hand painted with large flowering blooms in tones of mauve and blue on green stems on a light turquoise blue ground. The vase has been overlaid in a white slip with intricate bell shape floral stems with large open work leaves with slip decoration applied around the foot, to the handles and around the neck and top of the vase. The vases have a gold shield mark applied to the base. Provenance: Acquired from the British Art Market. In good condition with some minor loss to the slip applications and display well.
