Lucien Charles Edouard Alliot Signed French Art Nouveau Period Bronze Pitcher

About the Item

Signed, Lucien Charles Edouard Alliot, (French, 1877 - 1967). Bronze pitcher, signed to body, 'Alliot'. Body of vase cast in relief depicting a female figure and dolphin among waves, with a second female figure as the handle. Alliot was a student of Louis Ernest Barrias and Jules Felix Coutan and was well known for his figurative sculptures which were exhibited for many years at the salon de paris. He received a third place award in 1907 and a first place award in 1920. He became a jury member and evaluated sculptural works for the salon from 1934 to 1939. He designed encriers, pitchers and other objects which incorporated depictions of women in the Art Nouveau style. In addition, he created a number of allegorical groups: La Paix in 1939, a number of religious illustrations: Sacré Cœur in 1924, and La Vierge Marie et l’Enfant Jésus in 1925, and Saint-François d'Assise in 1933.
